Signs You Have a Blocked Drain

Residents can be slow to identify issues that lead to blocked drains and the consequences involved when not rectified in a timely manner. If you spot the faults early on, it’s easier to repair and can significantly reduce the cost of repair.

These are some of the signs to be wary of around your home that indicate a blocked drain.

The most obvious sign that you have a blocked drain is the pace at which water leaves the sink, especially in the kitchen. It’s often a result of food items slipping through only to form a blockage in the pipe. Unfortunately, it doesn’t raise any alarm bells and homeowners tend to ignore the problem. As a result, the blockage worsens to a point where the water a begins to stand in the sink and takes ‘forever’ to drain.

If you find that the water level in your toilet continues rising, you may have a blockage along the drainage pipe. A build-up of various materials forms a blockage in the pipes causing your toilet to operate less efficiently. When you experience this it’s time to call in a professional plumber.

The pipes within the walls of your home are meant to operate silently. If you hear a rattling or gurgling noise from the pipes, there could be blockage which needs to be inspected by a reputable plumber. Additionally, when there is an unpleasant odour emanating from any plumbing outlet within your property you should address it immediately.
